*RC HOBBY APPLICATION RATING: 100 amps for the duration of a single 5,000 mAh battery pack with the ESC in contact with a 5 mph airflow of 25C (77F) or cooler air. Controller temperature must never exceed 100C (212F). Exceeding current or temperature ratings may damage components and may shorten the life of the ESC. Always verify system current draw at full-throttle. Decrease load or increase airflow to decrease the ESC’s operating temperature.

**Peak indicates amperage sustainable for 0.5 seconds – long enough for most servos’ current draw transients. Your setup may vary. Always confirm servo current draw before the first flight of the model.

Product Features

Data Logging:

Available using Castle Link USB Adapter and the Castle Link Windows software to read, analyze and store the data recorded on the ESC.

Power System Alerts:

The Edge ESCs are programmed to sound a number of tunes and codes using the motor as well as flashing LED patterns to alert users to certain conditions regarding their power system, such as over temperature, excessive load and locked head speed.

AUX Functionality:

The Edge ESCs offer an AUX LINE, which is the extra white wire connected to the receiver cable. This line may be used for a variety of tasks such as helicopter governor gain input adjustments mid-flight, serve as an audible beacon after an "unexpected landing", act as an RPM output for 3-axis gyros that support RPM sensors, be used as an ESC arming lock (coupon for free Arming Lockout Key included) or as a receiver arming lock.

Telemetry Capable:

Telemetry has the potential not only to improve the safety of our models by monitoring battery voltages, ESC temperature, and other critical parameters, but it also creates other opportunities to get even more fun out of flying because you’ve essentially reduced the risks of “unknown” inevitable crashes. Think of the benefits to be had from alarms that will sound to warn you when there's interference about or if your receiver battery is running unexpectedly low. Requires purchase of Castle Telemetry Link for S.BUS2 (Item # 010-0152-00) and compatible Futaba Radio or Castle Telemetry Link for X-BUS (Item# 010-0148-00) and a compatible Spektrum Radio.

Protection Features:

Arm Lock Key: When the Arm Lock Key is in the socket, the controller will be incapable of arming. (coupon for Arming Lockout Key and Harness included with EDGE purchase)
RC Arm Lock: The controller will not arm or run when the auxiliary channel is below 50% after connecting the AUX line to an open channel on your receiver that is programmed to serve as an arm lock switch.

Warranty:

Castle Creations, Inc. warrants this product to be free from manufacturing defects for a period of one year from date of purchase.

Programmability:

Fully programmable Castle feature set using Castle Link USB adapter (coupon for free Castle Link adapter included in package) and freely downloadable Castle Link Windows software or the Castle Link iOS App and a B-Link Bluetooth Adapter. (A small subset of the settings available through Castle Link Windows software can be accessed via manual programming through the transmitter stick).

Firmware Upgrade:

Users will receive free access to all firmware updates, including added features sets using the Castle Link USB Programming Kit

Castle Link Compatible

Very good, but kind of old school

First of all: The EDGE 100 is a proven and very good ESC. It stays cool even under load close to it's rating, works with almost every motor (even 28 pole), is very accurate and stick sensitive and allows multiple adjustments via Castle Link. I Love the logging function. Even if you use telemetry, during flight there usually is no time to glance on the display and consider the values. The logging function allows to analyze all values thorougly at home and gives you a clear image of how your esc, motor and lipo configuration works together an can be improved.
I like the AUX wire. It fullfills many need and makes e.g. a kill switch obsolete.
But there are also a few things, that i wished to be improved. What you realize when you first plug in your 6S lipo: The EDGE 100 does not feature anti spark! Means your plug tips get burned every time you connect your ESC to the lipo. Dear Castle team: this is not state of the art!!! Many other brands (Kontronik, YGE, Dualsky...) have anti spark included. Why don't you?
The next point is the BEC. At first glance it is great. Allows adjustment of its output voltage via castle link over a wide range (5.0 V to 8.0 V in 0.5 volt steps as far as i remember). But it only delivers 5 amps. For todays demanding servos this is not enough. Castle urgently needs to improve this to at least 8 amps. The next question is can it deliver these 5 amps at 5.0V only? Which means a 25 watts BEC, or can it deliver theses 5 amps at 8.0V? Which means a 40 watts BEC. This is an information i miss on the webside and in the manual as well.
Another point is the telemetry connection. In germany we have some brands, thst are very expansive. At first glance. For example: an Kontronic Kolibri 90 for 6 S is available for 199€. The Castle EDGE 100 is sold for 134€ here. Makes the Castle cheaper, right? But it is not so easy. The Kontronik is delivered with integrated telemetry. Futaba SBUS, Spectrum, Graupner HOTT and Multiplex MSB telemetry can directly be fed out of the ESC. No additional links etc. needed.
To get the same feature in EDGE 100, you need to buy the additinal link.
EDGE 100 + telemetry link (60€ in Germany) is 194€. Now you have an ESC compareable to the Kontronik, but without anti spark and a much weaker BEC. The Kontronik fetures all these things.
The next big, expansive ESC brand in germany is YGE. And here it is absolutely the same. The YGE 90 is at first glance more expansive compared to the Gastle EDGE 100, but it comes with anti spark, big 8amps BEC and integrated telemetry.

Bottom line:
The EDGE 100 is very good. Powerful, sensitive, allows many custom adjustments to be done but Castle needs to begin doing some homework. The BEC is to weak, anti spark is missing (and demanded by customers) and an integrated telemetry is desireable.

So far...

Best regards
